Video: Macklemore – Thrift Shop

That’s how long it’s been since my last blog post. I’ve never parted from this baby for so long. My apologies, just haven’t been motivated lately. Time to get out of this funk, and this post will hopefully help out with that.

Two weeks ago I was lucky enough to travel to New Orleans for my second time. I honestly don’t know what it is about that city, but it makes me so incredibly happy. Just thinking about it now, puts a smile on my face. This song/video below is brought to you by one of my NOLA nights.

While I was in a bar off of Bourbon Street called Cats Meow, some dude got up on stage and sang “Thrift Shop”, karaoke-style. The entire bar erupted. Everyone knew every word of this song. I was left there standing very still, in awe of what I was witnessing. What the hell was this song? Why does everyone know it? How have I not heard of this song before? These were my immediate thoughts as I turned to my friend and asked what the hell was going on. My friend was somewhat familiar with the song, but even she was in shock over what was happening in this bar. For whatever reason, this became our theme song for this New Orleans trip. Even when coming back home, the people I traveled with cannot get enough of this song. So no, Macklemore has nothing to do with New Orleans, but for whatever reason his song really resonated with us and our ventures into the French Quarter. I should also note that this song isn’t as widely known in Chicago either, therefore I’ll make whatever Orleans/Macklemore connection I want to, thanksss.

So here’s to the wonderful city of New Orleans, the awesome people I got to share another great trip with, and to me coming back from a minor blogging-break.
