So far Miss Lana Del Rey has a good record of covering songs and making them her own, in a hauntingly, beautiful way.
This song is no different.
The video is pretty simple. It focuses on grainy/dimly lit images of the Chelsea Hotel and a guy and a girl (presumably in the hotel) smoking some cigarettes. In between that we see LDR singing and looking oh-so-cool and confident. Even disinterested at times, but then she cracks a smile, and you know she’s into it. The song was originally written by Leonard Cohen about Janis Joplin. In my mind, I’d like to think that the guy and the girl are those mentioned people. But I’m probably just making something out of nothing.
