Album Stream: Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp A Butterfly

KENDRICK IS BACK.

If you disappeared off the face of the earth yesterday or Sunday night, then you might not know this, but Kendrick Lamar’s new album, To Pimp A Butterfly is OUT. Although it wasn’t scheduled to be released till next Monday, March 23rd, some stuff apparently happened….. (someone fucked up and leaked the album, cough cough), but now we all can stream the album a week early! So who cares.

I don’t think I’ve seen so many people talk about a record like this before. I woke up yesterday to my Instagram and Facebook feeds blown completely the fuck up with news of the new Kendrick album leaking. But it wasn’t just news of this, is was everyone listening to the album. Like, on a daily basis, we can barely get along, can’t agree on anything, but new Kendrick music drops, and BOOM, we all love it. It’s kind of hilarious and weird we all commonly love him and expect the absolute best out of him. That’s a lot of pressure on one person’s shoulders, but if anyone can handle it, King Kendrick can.

I’ve only been able to listen to the album a few times so far, but it’s fucking amazing. It’s definitely different than good kid, m.A.A.d city, which in itself is an accomplishment for a sophomore album. There’s a lot more funk vibes spread throughout the album, topped with a lot of beats/production provided by Flying Lotus, and lyrics that are very racially and politically charged. It’s a polarizing album that doesn’t seem like it would make too much sense on paper, but just one listen and you’ll realize how above and beyond the album actually is and should be. The King has not failed us. Let us rejoice.
